I’m getting unbridled joy from my new purchase, a pair of second hand binoculars, which I bought to reward myself after undertaking a tough session of environmental dialogue brokering in Brussels.
Hardware harm
Using binoculars can be a badge. I’m a nature watcher. I’m a hunter. Though of course you can be both (I wrote this guest blog yonks ago ‘You can be a member of the RSPB and a gamekeeper‘).
At times, I’ve noticed the optic manufacturers being ‘trolled’ by those seeking to stoke division. Cue outrage, “I won’t be buying your equipment as you also promote it as an aid to hunting!!!!” This is, of course, of no help to the wildlife or those hunters-naturalists and others, seeking to restore and conserve habitats for humans and nature (see vlog).
Less leverage
Rather than take the moral high ground, let’s embrace diversity over dogma in finding #MoreInCommonConservation – even when values differ but we have common purpose.
I’ll be exploring diverse issues across the enviro-rural sector, without fear or favour, as the curator, host and moderator of three days of debate, with roving mics in the audience, at the first Welsh Game Fair near Bangor 9 to 11 Sept 2022.
Come along and have your say!
